Video Poker is a popular game that usually will be played in casinos across the globe, or alternatively at home on your PC, through an Internet account. The game rules are very simple and involve the player attempting to achieve the greatest combination of cards achievable in order to acquire money. In this respect it is very similar as a regular game of poker, without the line of contact with competing players. Of course, techniques used in a real-life game of poker, like bluffing, will be useless in Video Poker.

The game of Electronic Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (whether it is tokens, tickets or cash) into the machine and presses the deal button. A 5 card hand will then be electronically ‘dealt’ on the video screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has hold buttons, and bettors should now decide which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the player wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they want, whether it’s all or none.

After the bettor has selected which cards he would like to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any new cards will be given out if desired. The round is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the pay out schedule.

Typically, the lowest succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money increasing for each and every better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It should be known that the payment schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that experienced players are agile enough to pick the most profitable machine each instance.

As soon as the first round has completed, the player can either decide to continue on in an attempt to increase their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that might been won. Further, some versions of the game allow the gambler an opportunity to increase their wins, in which situation a further game is played. There are also variations between individual games, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other differing elements to enhance playability.
