Video Poker is a beloved game that can be bet on in casinos across the world, or in your house on your PC, using a net account. The regulations are very straightforward and involve the player attempting to get the highest combination of cards possible in order to win money. On this account it is very similar as a normal game of poker, without the interaction with competing players. Of course, techniques employed during a real-life game of poker, like tricking, will be irrelevant here.

The game of Electronic Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (whether it is tokens, tickets or money) into the video poker machine and presses the play button. A 5 card hand will then be electronically ‘dealt’ on the screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has hold buttons, and gamblers should now decide which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the enthusiast wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they want, whether it is all or none.

After the player has decided on which cards he or she wishes to keep, they should press ‘deal’, at which point any fresh cards will be given out if desired. The hand is now completed, with the Video Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands shown on the payment schedule.

Normally, the minimum winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each and every better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It is obvious that the payout schedule can vary from game to game, so that skillful gamblers are able to select the most profitable machine each time.

After the initial round has played out, the player can either decide to stay on in an attempt to increase their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any money that might have been won. Further, a few styles of the game give the player an opportunity to increase their wins, in which situation a further round is played. There are also variations between individual machines, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other differing characteristics to increase playability.
